101 Production Screenplay Re-write
Setting:
The front room of a flat and a coffee shop.
Locations:
The drama room and Romford’s town centre.
Time: A
period in the summer, in the daytime. A period in the winter, in the daytime
and late at night.Characters:
Sarah and James (18year old black female and 25year old white male)Dialogue:
Voiceover spoken by Sarah, no other dialogue.Sound:
Background music, 2 different types (happy and sad)
¡SFX. Non-diegetic
heavy-hearted music, that creates ambience.
¡INT. Long Shot, dark room with Sarah sitting in the
corner, shaking, wearing a dark vest top with shorts. A spotlight is shining on
her. The rest of the room is shrouded in darkness. Slowly the camera zooms into
her hand.
The next shot is a close-up of the bloodied knife in her hand. Slowly the
camera tilts up to her face, her clothes are covered in blood and her face is
dirtied. Her make-up is all smudged and she looks hysterical.
¡Voice over
(V/O) of Sarah, saying…
¡"Every
girl enjoys fairy tales.”
(Ambient music stops here)
¡ Goes into a flashback.
¡INT. Of
Sarah and James laughing and smiling, in a long shot, of them in a coffee shop.
¡ V/O. “Especially
Cinderella's.”
¡Sound. Happy,
parallel, non-diegetic music begins to play.
¡Cuts back to INT. Of Sarah in the room. Cuts to shot of her dropping the
knife in slow motion. SFX. Knife Drops. Overt Editing. The music stops and the only sound heard is the dropping of the
knife.
¡ V/O. "They love the idea of a Prince Charming who
is prepared to whisk them off to a
lifetime of bliss and wonder"
¡Cuts into another flashback.
¡
INT. Sarah in the
same room looking up at James. We are in the first person perspective of Sarah,so
we do not see her, only what she is looking at (POV Shot). James is wearing a
dark hoodie, so we can not see his face. Christmas decorations are seen in the
background, to suggest this is winter.
¡ V/O. “you know the line...'and they all lived
happily ever after; The end.’’Flashback of happy scene occurs again. INT. Happy music plays again. This time there
are jump cuts of implicit violence in between the happy flashback scenes.
¡ V/O. “The end? Is that it...?”
Flashes
back to winter flashback.
POV
Shot, Low angle shot, looking up at James. The shot is a blurry long shot of
James. Christmas decorations are seen in the background. James reaches down and
grabs behind the camera, either grabbing her throat or the scruff of the neck.
¡ V/O. "Not even close... " Music begins, more dramatic/sad music.
¡
V/O. “What they forget to tell every girl is the
fact that Prince Charming is non-existent.”
¡INT. Shopping mall, Sarah and James are playing around,
laughing and having a good time.
¡
V/O. “So you settle for a mimic, a wannabe, a
fake, a poser...”
Instantly cuts to other flashback of James holding her by the throat in the
POV flashback. With his free arm, he launches his fist into the camera
(suggesting that he is hitting her in the face). The camera rolls over and
screen turns to black(suggesting that she has rolled over on the floor,
blotting out all the vision and turning the screen to black).
¡
V/O. “An
IMPOSTER!!" Music fades out. Against the black background, the title slowly fades in.
Title is dripping and red, the single word ‘IMPOSTER.’ Word fades out again and
the screen goes completely black.
