Day 5 Editing

In lesson today, we continued editing our clips together and are nearly done. We have been including our transitions as we have been editing our clips and so when we have finished we would start including the colour correction effects as well.

In this clip we wanted to slow it down so we modified the speed...

Then changed the percentage of the speed...

The effect was that the clip was jagged and shaky.
Then I saw the unticked box next to the word "Reverse" which I decided to tick, after doing so our clip reversed and the effect was really good. Now the jagged, shaky, reverse camera effect makes the  POV shot look more realistic because now the dark figure looks like it's actually strangling Sarah instead of getting ready to do so.
We faced a problem with my hands which were supposed to be help up in a protective manner, they looked really awkward and stiff because they were not moving, and we thought that by shortening and then cutting the clip we could get rid of this awkwardness, none of these ideas worked, the best result occurred when the clip's speed was reduced-however my hands still look a bit awkward.
We also tried using other clips we had filmed in a similar way but the effect was still the same  When we were recording I should have made my hands shake to represent the fear of Sarah.
The clip is really short, however and should hopefully not derail from the overall effect of our film.

We decided that it would be aesthetically pleasing and visually effective if as Sarah is speaking the main words she says in her voice over was written out (for example "a mimic"). So Conor and I went on urbanfonts.com to see a wide range of possible fonts we could use.
This was the font that appealed to us the most, we had decided that we wanted the font  to look like a feminine handwriting and should portray the distress and emotions that Sarah is feeling.
Then when we tried to use the font we couldn't, neither could we reverse the colour by making the background black and the writing white, so we decided to use one of the fonts of Final Cut.

We used the font Handwriting - Dakota and  we thought this font was a lot better at representing Sarah's thoughts than the other font. Our teacher also felt that this font looked a lot better than the urbanfont that we had previously chosen.

We have decided that the last word that Sarah says "an IMPOSTER" would be written out as well but the "an" would be removed (most likely be faded out) leaving just the title "IMPOSTER" or we would not even  include the word "an" and just show the word "IMPOSTER." Personally I prefer our second idea because I think that it would flow a lot better and make her last word stand out even more.
